American Cycle

I started this as a series of hand-lettered pieces during the volatile summer of 2020. At the time there were a lot of unarmed Black Americans who were getting killed by police but not receiving widespread attention until weeks or months after the fact (Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Elijah McClain, etc).

It was so frustrating to see the same sequence of events happen repeatedly. Who knows how many people have been unjustly killed by police that we still haven't or never will hear about. Not to mention all of the racist murders that are perpetrated by ordinary citizens. Making this piece was my way of dealing with these infuriating and overwhelming issues.
